                                                                       Our Story

​

     Begins in 1975 when two California Desert Rats met in high school Health class. Many years, 4 children and 6 grandchildren later, we landed in Augusta, MO, Living the Dream in the middle of the woods.

 

    Living the Dream in the middle of the woods meant ticks and poison ivy rashes, honeysuckle and brush so thick you could barely spot the snake before you stepped right next to it. So, it was not very long before thoughts turned to methods of brush removal, and thus entered our initial herd of 9 goats; 4 Nannies and 5 Kids. 

 

     As we quickly learned, 9 goats don’t stay at 9 for long. Our 4 Nannies came to us bred;  within a few months our herd had grown to 16 in number and Good Shepherd Hills was established.

 

     At Good Shepherd Hills, family is our top focus, both human and animal. We believe that when animals are given loads of affection and treated with great care, they become willing members of the family. When children are given the opportunity to care for and interact with animals daily, they learn invaluable life lessons that no classroom can teach. Animals become well socialized and children become well motivated.

 

     We are working diligently, every day, to ensure that Our Story continues to evolve and our Family continues to grow.  We currently have 30 goats, 5 cats, 3 dogs, 8 puppies, 17 fowl, and 2 rabbits. We would be pleased to share our Family with Yours!
